2009 Art Tour

Montfaucon Tours Presents: “Discovering the Languedoc”

Watercolor Painting in Southern France with Artist Barbara Jackson

May 23 to June 6 , 2009

To download a printable version of this brochure click here (559 KB PDF)

Rich in history, as well as in natural beauty, the Languedoc region is situated at the foot of the Pyrenees Mountains in Southern France. Here, artists will find a wealth of visual inspiration; Cathar castle ruins cling to rugged peaks while far below, winding rivers, lush pasturelands and vineyards stretch towards the horizon. Ancient villages, with narrow cobbled streets, half timbered medieval houses, and gothic church spires await the artist’s brush. Watercolorists will enjoy two full weeks of sketching and painting in this fascinating part of France.

Locations close to our home base in the town of Limoux will provide daily opportunities for sketching and painting. Whether a five minute walk across the bridge into the heart of the town, or a short ride by private van to a nearby site, there is no end to subject matter. Occasional daytrips will take us farther, to discover other areas of artistic interest.

Accommodations at Montfaucon Residence

Limoux, France

The lovely Montfaucon Residence in the town of Limoux, France will provide deluxe accommodations for our stay in the Languedoc. Situated at river’s edge, this meticulously restored, 800-year-old building was home to the guardians of the medieval city’s bridged entryway. Views from the rooms and the terrace offer myriad possibilities for sketching and painting; the bridge itself, the red tiled roofs and colorful houses across the Aude River, are all splendid subjects for future works of art.

The spacious rooms of the Montfaucon are perfection in both design and comfort. Historic elements of the twelfth century building have been restored and retained while contemporary conveniences have been thoughtfully integrated into the overall plan.

The lower level “cave” has been made into a professionally designed studio, ideal for demonstrations, reviews and indoor work.

Classes, Demonstrations and Workshops

Barbara Jackson Workshop Review
by Jessica Veilleux, workshop participant:

Barbara Jackson, a professional artist with 25 years experience teaching workshops worldwide, stated that she was delighted with the talent and creativity she observed teaching the San Antonio Watercolor Group artists. Barbara is an accomplished instructor who expects participants to learn the creative potential of acrylic paints on multiple surfaces, complete two paintings in one short day and have fun doing it! She assured goals were achievable by offering a well organized workshop, acrylics, brushes, paper treated with various medias and inspirational photos of the beauty she discovered in her own backyard. We were motivated by her enthusiasm and playfully succeeded in completing both paintings. We all left her workshop inspired by each others work and the potential of using acrylic paints to meet our artistic vision.
